Angelina Jolie plays a former dancer with bangs in the 1970s in By the Sea

Ooooooooh!!! Entertainment Weekly got an exclusive on Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s new film, By the Sea, including the first three images from the production. This ^^ is the best one. Angelina Jolie is playing someone tragic, sullen, cheekboney and bangsy. Brad Pitt is playing someone with a mustache, bored with sleeping with his hot wife. It’s set in the 1970s. La Jolie is a former dancer. YES. You can see more photos here, at EW. EW also got more details about the script, which was written by Jolie.

Although Pitt and Jolie just tied the knot themselves on Aug. 23 after a nearly decade-long relationship, this is how they’ll be spending their honeymoon—exploring a marriage that’s collapsing on itself.

Set in France during the mid-1970s, Jolie plays Vanessa, a former dancer, and Pitt is her husband Roland, an American writer. As they travel the country together, they seem to be growing apart, but when they linger in one quiet, seaside town they begin to draw close to some of its more vibrant inhabitants, such as a local bar/café-keeper (Niels Arestrup) and hotel owner (Richard Bohringer, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover.)

“I chose to set By the Sea in the 1970s, not only because it is a colorful and alluring era, but because it removes many of the distractions of contemporary life and allows the focus to remain squarely on the emotions that the characters experience in their journey,” Jolie said in a statement to EW.

In other words, it was a time when it was still possible to escape your everyday life without so many methods of staying connected or distracted. In this story, she says a different kind of social networking takes place. As a kind of found-family is assembled amid these maritime dwellers, histories are shared—some joyful, some mournful—and the couple are swept up in their stories, changing the way they look at each other.

EW says that By the Sea already started production last week, and will film through mid-November. Jolie compiled an interesting set of behind-the-scenes people too, which EW details as: “editor Patricia Rommel (The Lives of Others); production designer Jon Hutman (Unbroken); and costume designer Ellen Mirojnick (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps). The executive producers are Chris Brigham (Inception), Holly Goline (Unbroken) and Michael Vieira (Unbroken).” Holly Goline has been with Angelina for like 15 years, right? And Goline started out as Angelina’s assistant? That’s pretty cool.

I didn’t know this film was set in the 1970s. That’s surprisingly good news, mostly because Angelina loves a ‘70s vibe. Her default style is very ‘70s, her jewelry line came straight out of the ‘70s and she looks so much like her mother in the 1970s. Sigh… I hope this film is decent. At the very least, I hope that Angelina Jolie forces herself to dance. Or better yet, Brad and Angie can dance together. Again. Like they did in Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
